Frank Lampard has spoken about Mason Mount’s injury, although the Chelsea boss didn’t have much information to share.
The midfielder was taken out of the game by Francis Coquelin after just 15 minutes, the former Arsenal player following through on a hefty challenge that seemed to bend Mason’s foot back.
Speaking after the game to journalists including the Athletic’s Liam Twomey, whose Tweet is embedded below; Lampard confirmed that it was his ankle, but said the 21 year old had gone for scans and nothing else was known yet. His tone, reportedly, didn’t transmit much hope.
Lampard says Mount has an ankle injury but they don’t know how serious it is yet. He’ll be assessed in the next 24 to 48 hours #cfc

Lampard on Mount: says he has an ankle injury, and 'we'll have to wait and see'. Says it was a shame, as he was playing well.

It would be great to have him back for this weekend, but if he’s going for a scan at all we can pretty much rule that out. The team will have to be adapted once again to replace the breakout star.
If we’re lucky, it’s just some bruising, and he can take this next game and the Carabao Cup match off. If it’s more serious than that, alarm bells could be ringing.
