Frank Lampard excited to make Champions League return for Chelsea

Frank Lampard has been speaking about making his debut as a manager in the Champions League tomorrow night against Valencia.

The former midfielder made a serious name for himself in the competition as a player, including lifting the cup itself in 2012 with Chelsea.

Now he returns to compete in the cup with the big ears again, but in a different role. His quotes, as recorded by SkySports, make it very clear how excited he is by the whole prospect.

“The Champions League. It is the top club competition in world football and I’m sure Mason and Tammy and Tomori are all excited for it,” the Chelsea boss enthused.

“All the players should be, all players love the Champions League – and I’m looking forward to my debut as a manager.”

We can’t wait either Frank. It’s been a long drought for us too – with the exception of a run to the second round under António Conte a couple of seasons ago, we’ve been starved of CL action at Stamford Bridge in recent seasons, and this home tie against Valencia is the perfect way to get started again.

They should provide an interesting and exotic challenge for this young team, without totally overwhelming them.
