Ethan Ampadu needs January recall as dreams of Champions League action fade

Ethan Ampadu’s struggles are continuing in the Bundesliga.

The midfielder was sent to RB Leipzig to try and get a regular spot playing in a good team, but it’s been an utter disaster so far.

The Welshman hasn’t even been able to make the squad recently, and missed out again in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

At this rate, a January recall looks essential, if it’s even possible. The midfielder needs minutes and he’s not looking like getting them anytime in Germany. His team are absolutely flying both domestically and in Europe, and manager Julien Nagelsmann doesn’t look likely to change anything anytime soon.

Just as in his last season at Chelsea, the brilliant young midfielder’s only minutes are coming with his national team. In fact, he might even have played more if he’d stayed at Chelsea given the injury issues we’ve had.

It’s hard to not be gutted – we wanted to see him do his thing in the Champions League, but if we can recall him in January it’s only half a season wasted, and he can make progress perhaps back in the Premier League with one of the many other clubs who wanted him.
