Chelsea’s unlikely move for 22 goal Serie A ace and why it might not work

Just under one year ago, there was one name starting to spread across the lips of transfer gurus around the world: Krzysztof Piatek.

The Polish striker had a great start to the season with Genoa – so good, in fact that they ended up selling him to Milan after just 6 months at the club.

In that January, plenty were praying Chelsea picked up the pole, but in the end Milan got their man and the Blues went for… Gonzalo Higuain. The less said about that the better.

Since then, Piatek made a superb start to life in Italy, but he’s faded a little since, leading to rumours recently that we might go back for a second run at him. One goal in 9 appearances, after grabbing 22 in the league last season is quite some drop off.

The Sun name Piatek as one of five (slightly unlikely) targets we would pursue in the (slightly unlikely) case that our transfer ban is overturned in January.

Don’t hold your breath on this one, either for January or the summer. If we really wanted him, we probably would have gone and grabbed him a year ago.
