Chelsea’s next Champions League opponents sack their manager

Valencia have sacked their manager just a week before the Spanish club are due to face Chelsea in the Champions League.

The Spanish club have been going through a period of some turmoil, despite a great season last time out where they finished 4th and beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.

Trouble has been brewing for some times on the Mediterranean coast, and while things had briefly been smoothed out between owner Peter Lim and coach Marcelino, clearly it wasn’t a long term solution.

This will hopefully affect their team next week – an opening win in the Champions League group stage always sets you up nicely to qualify. On the other hand, some teams find themselves inspired by a new coach – the legendary “new manager bounce”.

Either way, seeing Champions League football return to Stamford Bridge will be a pleasure, no matter who is in charge of the opposition.
