Chelsea’s starting eleven to face Valencia in tonight’s Champions League group opener has been announced.
The day is finally here. After a year away from Europe’s premier club competition, Chelsea are finally back competing on the biggest stage of them all.
Winning the Europa League kept our hearts and minds usefully occupied last time around, but we have a special connection with this competition, we belong at this level.
Frank Lampard will have had to adjust his expectations heading into this year’s campaign, with his yearly player target of lifting the trophy perhaps a little optimistic considering the current state of affairs.
We are perfectly primed for a run in the competition, though, especially if Lampard is going to be naming starting elevens of this strength throughout it’s duration.
