Chelsea star still “hopeful” of returning from injury this week

Mason Mount went off injured against Valencia last night, receiving a nasty blow on the ankle from Francis Coquelin after just 15 minutes.

The midfielder tried to carry on, but soon after gave up and was replaced by Pedro. Signs didn’t look great, and Frank Lampard mentioned a “scan” after the game, in quotes picked up by the Daily Star.

Given our game against Liverpool is on Sunday, we weren’t holding out much hope of seeing the 21 year old in action.

But today there’s a little snippet of hope again. The Metro don’t have any quotes, but they do say that he “told reporters that [he] was hopeful of being available for the game against Liverpool”.

We’ll believe that when we see it, but clearly it’s going to be touch and go. Even if it’s just some mild swelling and bruising, the odds are that the doctors are just going to tell him to take it easy this weekend, and we can’t see Frank risking making it a longer term issue.
