Christian Pulisic is the third most dispossessed player in the Premier League this season.
That’s according to WhoScored, who have him down as losing the ball 3.5 times a game, behind only Wilf Zaha and Emi Bunedia in the whole division.
Of course that list of top three tells you everything you need to know. These are all fast tricky wingers taking on full backs. It’s never going to be Gary Cahill at the top of these rankings. It’s just the nature of Pulisic’s position that you’re putting the ball at risk.
But nevertheless, one can understand why Frank Lampard might want to take it easy working him into the team, especially while we have so many defensive issues. Better to let him learn a little more discipline and ease him in gently.
Mason Mount for example, playing on the other side, has only lost it 1.5 times a game, despite dribbling a fair bit and playing key passes. That’s a much more acceptable figure for Frank going forward.
