Chelsea player “battered by six thugs” in latest shameful incident, according to British tabloids

We used to feel sorry for Danny Drinkwater.

It’s hard to feel too sorry for someone being handed £100,000 a week to be a training ground dummy, but seeing him sit out match after match on the bench for Chelsea became a little depressing.

The fact that he seemed to turn down the opportunity to leave the club last summer on loan was disappointing, him then getting a drink driving ban in May of this year (as reported here by the BBC) was even worse.

Now there’s been a new incident, with the Sun filling in all the sordid details you need.

Drinkwater, now on loan at Burnley, apparently had a fight with a Scunthorpe player in a nightclub in Manchester, before being set upon by a “gang of up to six men” outside.

They “battered” the midfielder and apparently intended to damage his legs in particular.

We have little idea of what really happened that night. What is certain, however, is that this kind of news is not doing our club, or Danny, any favours.

He might find himself out of chances sooner rather than later.
