Chelsea keen on £35 million Ligue 1 defender when ban is lifted

Chelsea are considering a move for Nice right back Youcef Atal when their transfer ban is over, according to The Daily Mail.

The Blues are banned from signing players until the summer as things stand, but they have appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are hopeful that they might be able to sign players in January, according to The Mirror.

The Mail state that Atal is a player who is on Frank Lampard’s radar.

The 23-year old is an Algerian international and is a very good modern day full back, an area on the pitch where Chelsea are struggling.

Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta appears to be uncomfortable playing in that role and is in a visible decline.

Whilst Atal would be seen as good competition for Reece James, who is yet to make a Premier League appearance yet.

Tha Mail say that Atal would cost Chelsea around £35 million.
