Chelsea injury news: Blues forced into early substitution against Liverpool

Chelsea have been forced into an early substitution during their clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Emerson Palmieri, who was one of our best players throughout the opening stages of the season, has been replaced by left-back counterpart Marcos Alonso.

Alonso has been involved in recent matches in the absence of Emerson, was send back to the substitutes bench today after Emerson was deemed fit to start.

The Brazilian lasted just 15 minutes against Liverpool, meaning Chelsea are now a goal and a substitute down so soon into today’s contest. Not the best start.

This is the perfect opportunity for Alonso to reaffirm his credentials at left-back, with Lampard quite clearly favouring the more reliable Emerson in that role.

We can’t help but think that he’s in for a difficult afternoon, though, especially up against one of the best in the business in Mohamed Salah.

It’s not looking good for Chelsea…
