Chelsea fans put on rollercoaster ride over key player’s injury

International duty is always a risky time for clubs, and this one proved to be no exception for Chelsea.

Emerson Palmieri was subbed midway through Italy’s EURO qualifier against Finland with an injury problem, and it predictably caused quite a lot of doom and gloom among Chelsea fans.

The left back has been one of the stars of the season for Frank Lampard so far, and seeing him forced off the pitch for his country with his shirt covering his pained face was a real sickener, especially with so many important games coming up. But reports after the game seemed to indicate that the issue was relatively minor.

The Metro had quotes from the defender’s international coach Roberto Mancini, who insisted that he only took him off for precautionary reasons:

“It was nothing serious, he stopped to ensure it didn’t get any worse.”

That was backed up by a Tweet from Emerson himself:

He says that the problem is “nothing serious”, and those comforting words will give hope to many Chelsea fans who are already worried about our game with Wolves coming up next weekend.
