Callum Hudson-Odoi perfectly set up for Champions League debut

Wednesday night is the night that Callum Hudson-Odoi steps on to the pitch in Europe’s biggest competition.

We’re not certain, and Frank Lampard may reveal more in his press conference later, but we think it’s all lined up perfectly for Callum to take on Lille. He’s fit after starting last week against Grimsby, and should be good for 60 minutes in France.

Chelsea need to win, but introducing him for Pedro or Wilian doesn’t weaken the team. In fact, if he’s back into form, it strengthens it significantly. Lille away is a decent test for anyone to make their Champions League bow, but if we play to our potential we should do just fine.

It would be a surprise to see Willian and Pedro picked again, but then again perhaps Frank will opt for experience and discipline over youth and attacking verve. As a new manager, we’re still working out his foibles.

Let’s hope someone can weedle it out of him in the presser tomorrow afternoon.
