Spotted – promising Chelsea youngster with Super Cup squad to face Liverpool

18-year old Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has been spotted with the squad in Istanbul, according to Oliver Harbord of Football London.

Gilmour was not included in the original Chelsea squad list, but he is with the group of players in Turkey who are getting ready to face Liverpool on Wednesday evening in the UEFA Super Cup Final.

Gilmour is rated highly at Chelsea, and was even used by Frank Lampard in some of the pre-season matches earlier this summer.

He certainly didn’t look out of place during the matches he played, and was arguably one of the better performers.

He might now be finding himself as extra backup for the midfield areas, with Danny Drinkwater having joined Burnley in the transfer window, and another injury to N’Golo Kante, as reported by Chelsea.

The Scotland Under-21 international will mainly be used in the Chelsea development squad this season, but he might be one who Lampard will look to come in and provide rotation cover in the domestic cup competitions.
