Paul Merson shares his horrible take on Frank Lampard and Chelsea affairs

Paul Merson appears to have suggested that Chelsea should have appointed Brendan Rodgers this summer instead of club legend Frank Lampard in his column for the Daily Star.

It’s a frequent occurrence, Merson talking absolute nonsense. Whether it’s for attention or his knowledge of the game just isn’t all there is not clear, but he’s often just downright wrong.

He’s done it again, this time while writing a column for the Daily Star and commenting on the current goings on at Stamford Bridge. His take on Lampard is utterly ridiculous.

Not only has Merson made his judgement on our manager after two games, he believes that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers would have been a better fit for us.

He wrote in his column for the Daily Star:

“There’s a lot of pressure on Frank Lampard to get that winning mentality. They’ve lost twice now and conceded six goals which isn’t great. They need to start well at home, or people will start questioning why they didn’t offer Brendan Rodgers the job. I’ve said before I think he would have been perfect. I just think none of the top name managers wanted the Chelsea job. They’ve sold their best player by a million miles and can’t replace him because of the ban.”

Rodgers is a good manager, but he failed to deliver the Premier League title at Liverpool and everything fell apart in wake of Luis Suarez’s departure to Barcelona.

He has also proven to be a decisive character at times, with Lampard uniting the Chelsea fan base like no other manager could have. Though, we wouldn’t have expected Merson to acknowledge any of this.
