Official: Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater signs for Burnley on loan for half the season

It’s time to rejoice, Chelsea fans, for Danny Drinkwater has officially left the club to sign for Premier League counterparts Burnley on loan for half of the 2019/20 campaign.

Drinkwater was frozen out of the Chelsea squad by Maurizio Sarri last season. While there were suggestions that Frank Lampard could bring him back into the fold, they’ve soon been rubbished.

Lampard too has not deemed Drinkwater suitable, with the lead up to the transfer deadline spent attempting to shift him. Thankfully for us, Marina Granovskaia has found a way.

Official confirmation of Drinkwater’s much-awaited departure from Chelsea arrived on Thursday evening, with Burnely confirming that they were the (un)lucky recipients of the midfielder.

It seems likely that we will have had to subsidise a portion of his wages in order to get this deal over the line, but that’s not a problem, if not for Burnley we will have been paying them all.

Good luck this season, Danny.
