Mateo Kovacic reveals the positive tactical change Frank Lampard has given him

One of the better performers under Frank Lampard so far this season has been Croatian international Mateo Kovacic.

He was again one of the standout players in their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday, when they beat Norwich City 3-2.

Kovacic was a regular feature for Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea team last season, but he failed to really light it up.

Lampard has flirted with various formations and has implemented a slightly different style of play than Sarri used during his reign.

As a result, a number of players already seem to be benefiting from it.

One of those has undoubtedly been Kovacic. The midfielder has been explaining to the Chelsea website, the positive differences he is experiencing so far under Lampard.

He said:

“The manager has given me more freedom to get up and support the attacks, I can collect the ball and drive forward.

“I feel good, I have a great connection with the manager and his coaching team and of course with my team-mates.

“I feel better to be a Chelsea player, compared to last season when I was only on loan. I feel more confident, I’m more relaxed because I know this is my home now and I feel really good.”

The 25-year old made his loan move from Real Madrid permanent this summer, and it seems like a decision that all parties will not be regretting.

Kovacic loves to collect the ball and drive with it, and when he’s in full flow, it’s impossible to stop him.
