Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the UEFA Super Cup after suffering a calf injury on the opening day of the Premier League season, report the BBC.
Alisson hit the Anfield turf after appearing to twist his leg in a direction it isn’t meant to go. The innocuous can often be the most serious, but thankfully there was no major ligament damage inflicted, as was initially feared.
However, as the BBC report, Alisson will not recover in time to be part of Liverpool’s squad to face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup this Wednesday. He’ll be forced to watch from the sidelines when the two teams meet in Istanbul.
As a result, former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian, who signed for the Reds late in the transfer window, will likely be between the sticks for the big game. While he’s a good goalkeeper, he’s no Alisson, so this is good news for Chelsea.
