Frank Lampard’s dedication to Chelsea’s youngsters summed up by stat

Frank Lampard’s dedication to giving our younger players opportunities during his time as Chelsea manager has been summed up by a stat shared by Nizaar Kinsella on Twitter.

With the transfer ban in force, some would argue that Lampard had no choice but to entertain the players we had returning from loan. However, in naming the team he has against Manchester United, he showed that fielding our brightest young talents is very much at the forefront of his thinking.

Lampard has included Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham in his starting eleven. In recent seasons, it’s difficult to imagine even one of those players being trusted to start in an opening day fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The stats provide further evidence of how things are set to change under Lampard, too. As Nizaar Kinsella revealed, we haven’t named a starting eleven with an average age this low for seven years.

Long may it continue!
