Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed just how much of an integral role midfielder Jorginho has in his plans at Stamford Bridge, report The Sun.
Jorginho arrived at Chelsea following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri last summer and has subsequently struggled to dispel the idea that he is a disciple of his former manager.
He has the opportunity to do so under Lampard, a different manager with a different background and substantially different ideas of how his Chelsea side should play.
He’s off to a good start, with Lampard revealing that Jorginho is at the heart of his plans at Chelsea, just as he was Sarri’s. Lampard is quoted by The Sun saying:
“I agree with him, he should be seen as Chelsea’s Jorginho. I keep talking about his attributes, he’s a driver of the group and he has a real quality. He has a real passion for football, and I love that.”
Jorginho was one of the best performers from Wednesday night’s stalemate with Liverpool. If he continues to perform like that, he will be a guaranteed starter under Lampard in the season ahead and beyond.
As Lampard said himself, too, he’s a leader. Could he be in the running for the armband when Cesar Azpilicueta is eventually phased out of the starting side? It wouldn’t surprise us…
