Kenneth Omeruo has completed a move to Leganes, Chelsea announced on their official website today.
The Nigeria defender has been at Stamford Bridge since 2012, incredibly, without ever playing for the senior team in a competitive game.
He’s been on all manner of loans, some better than others, but finally looked to have found his feet last season at Leganes on the outskirts of Madrid.
The fee was not disclosed by the Blues, but we imagine it’s in the range of around €5m, a fair figure for one of the more impressive defenders outside the top teams in La Liga last year.
The defender also posted this image on his Instagram to celebrate his years at the club:

I have nothing but Love for this club … @chelseafc made my dreams as a child to become a reality.. thank you for an Amazing 7 years.. Thanks to all Chelsea fans for the love.. thank you Eddie Newton you are an amazing coach and manager.. I will never forget this club… But it’s time to move on and realize my full potential.. THANK YOU @chelseafc ❤️
He did well to find a picture of himself in Chelsea kit! The fact that it’s one from about 2015 tells you all you need to know about how long he’s been kicking around at Cobham.
Good luck in Spain, Kenneth!
