Why Chelsea’s task against Manchester United just got much more difficult

Harry Maguire is set to complete a massive transfer to Manchester United today, not only setting new records for transfer fees for a defender, but also significantly affecting Chelsea’s game against the Red Devils next week.

The BBC report that an £80m deal for the centre back is set to go through today, giving the Leicester man a full 7 days to prepare for his debut – likely to be against us at Old Trafford next week.

While Maguire won’t yet be fully settled, he provides an instant upgrade at the back for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Chelsea will suddenly fancy their chances a lot less, especially in the air where the England starter is totally imperious. The Manchester United manager told the Metro that his new signing should slot in straight away.

He’s not perfect, and Frank Lampard will have a week to work out how best to expose him, but with a total lack of pace in our forward line it will be a struggle to get the former Sheffield United man on the turn.

Perhaps Pedro will be best suited to run in behind him – but that won’t be easy.
