Chelsea striker eager to ‘silence the haters’ after difficult week

Tammy Abraham has had a tough week in a Chelsea shirt, but he’s eager to let his feet do the talking and move on.

He missed his sides decisive penalty against Liverpool on Wednesday evening, seeing them narrowly missing out on winning the UEFA Super Cup.

As a result of that, he was subjected to racist abuse online, as reported here by The Guardian.

He then saw his side only manage a draw at home to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon. A game that the 21-year old didn’t start, but he did make an appearance in the second half, replacing Olivier Giroud.

It was a difficult game for Frank Lampard’s side, and Abraham struggled to get himself in the game and make any kind of impact. It was that type of game, with his side under the cosh.

The Blues ending up feeling lucky to get a draw in the end, capping off a week to forget for Lampard’s side.

Abraham though, stays positive, he told Sky Sports:

“You just want to silence the haters. You just want to do your bit on the pitch [and] let the football do the talking.

“I was getting some abuse but for me I am a positive guy. I don’t listen to the rubbish, to the people who try to bring you down. I just try to keep the focus on me and keep going.

“Things are looking positive [under Lampard] . It is nice to know that the manager, with so much experience, believes in you, especially the young boys coming up.

“Things are looking good, especially for the Academy boys as well looking up to us who were players once in their shoes.”
