Chelsea linked with £40m return for flourishing former youth player

The transfer window shut less than 24 hours ago, but Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph has wasted no time in firing up the rumour machine again.

The Chelsea beat writer has today discussed the idea that Nathan Ake could rejoin the club next summer, when our transfer ban has expired.

In his piece he points out that Chelsea have a deal in place to re-sign Bournemouth defender Ake for £40m, if the player is keen.

That would seem like fantastic value in this market. Having sold him to the South Coast for half of that, the young Dutchman has gone from strength to strength, as we all predicted he would once he was playing regularly.

Given some of the sums that have been thrown around for defenders this summer, and given how weak we look in central defender with David Luiz now gone, this would surely be a no brainer if the clause is real, and if Ake can be persuaded to roll the dice on cracking the first team at the Bridge again.
