Chelsea goalkeeper could share Spanish number one spot, hints manager

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga may have to share the number one position for his national side Spain, hints manager Robert Moreno.

Kepa has been excellent since joining Chelsea last year, and has put firm pressure on David de Gea for that regular number one spot between the Spanish posts.

The 24-year old was bought in by Chelsea because of his abilities to play out from the back, as well as his shot-stopping.

The Blues were keen to build a long term future of playing out from the back, and there aren’t many in the game better than doing that than Kepa.

But his National manager Robert Moreno states that he doesn’t have a ‘number one’ goalkeeper as such, and enjoys that he has good competition.

Moreno believes that all three of his goalkeepers are good at playing out from the back, and could rotate the position in the coming future.

Speaking to Cadena Ser as translated by Goal, Moreno said:

“My goalkeepers are De Gea, Kepa and Pau Lopez.

“I like that there is competition. Kepa is not ahead of De Gea, and neither is ahead of Pau.

“I want to get to the Euros with three goalkeepers who are ready to compete. They are all playing at a high level and there are nuances and differences between them. All three have good footwork.

“At Barca, we won the treble alternating goalkeepers.”
