Chelsea could be tempted to rush back integral centre-back from knee injury

Chelsea are considered fast-forwarding Antonio Rudiger’s injury recovery timeline following the opening day embarrassment against Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

While the Blues were certainly not dreadful out there on the Old Trafford turf, our defence made a catalogue of errors which led to us being picked apart by a clinical Man United side.

Kurt Zouma, who is still very raw, looked out of his depth, while Cesar Azpilicueta showed yet again that the years are catching up to him. Reinforcements are needed at the back, and fast.

Thankfully, they’re on their way, with the first arrival set to be Antonio Rudiger. The Daily Mail believe that Chelsea are set to rush him back from injury, through necessity more than anything.

The report claims that our trip to Wolves on September 14th was initially supposed to be his return date, but it could now be sooner with Chelsea’s defence capitulating in Manchester.

However bad our defence performs in the coming weeks, rushing Rudiger back from his knee injury would be unwise. If the Wolves game was thought to be an appropriate return date, keep it that way.
