Chelsea legend likely to return as a coach after announcing retirement

Ashley Cole announced his retirement from professional football live on Sky Sports yesterday – and it looks as though he could be on his way back to Chelsea in a coaching role.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who report that following his retirement Cole is looking likely to become part of Frank Lampard’s coaching setup at Stamford Bridge.

This summer has already seen the return of Lampard, Petr Cech, Claude Makelele and more. It would come as no surprise if the club offered Cole the chance to follow suit.

Cole has a close relationship with Lampard as a result of their time spent together both as teammates at Chelsea and as a player and manager at Derby County.

The former left-back knows Chelsea like the back of his hand and knows exactly what it takes for players to win trophies during their time at this great club.

We struggle to see a downside from a potential Cole return. Let’s make it happen.
