Three things to expect from Frank Lampard’s first game in charge of Chelsea

Chelsea take on Bohemians in Dublin this evening, and we’ve considered three things which we can expect to see from Frank Lampard’s first game in charge.

Plenty of youth

Whether it be through desire or necessity, there’s little doubt that Lampard will give plenty of minutes to our younger players during tonight’s contest.

Lampard needs to decide which of the youngsters he wants to keep around as part of the squad, and who is set to be shipped out on loan.

This is a great opportunity for him to begin making his mind up.

A whole new system

The Sarriball era is well and truly over, with many Chelsea fans likely to be happy about that, but it also signals the implementation of a new setup.

Lampard will be wasting no time drilling his philosophy and style of play into his Chelsea players, with tonight’s game a chance to develop their understanding.

By the end of tonight’s game, we ought to have a much clearer idea of how Lampard plans to setup his new players ahead of the new season.

No ‘messing about’

We fear for Bohemians ahead of this one, because Lampard’s return will have reinvigorated the players and they ALL have a point to prove now.

The returning loanees will be fighting for a place in the squad, while the senior players have to prove their worth under new management once again.

We don’t imagine that a single player on the field tonight will be taking their foot off the gas, which could see this friendly turn into a very one-sided affair.
