The crucial promise Roman Abramovich made to Frank Lampard before he became Chelsea boss

Chelsea have just signed Frank Lampard on as their new head coach and are hoping the former player will improve the current players at his disposal while winning things.

The Independent reports that it took one conversation for the former midfielder to accept the role at Stamford Bridge. He was keen to be assured that he will not be sacked in his first year as manager. In truth, Lampard played his cards well there.

A few of the managers that have been appointed under Roman Abramovich’s era have been sacked in their first year in charge and the Chelsea legend wanted to avoid meeting the same fate. He wants better from his new employers. The Independent report says Lampard was given those assurances.

He was guaranteed at least one season in charge of the club he played over 600 games for, scoring 211 goals to become the all-time leading scorer in its history.
