This player faces one of the most uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge

Davide Zappacosta has joined up with the Chelsea squad for preseason, and is probably looking forward to a chance to impress a new manager.

Despite being brought in my Antonio Conte two years ago, he wasn’t able to convince the Italian coach of his worth as a first team player.

Under Maurizio Sarri he got even less of a chance, with the back 4 setup not helping his chances either.

In any other circumstances one would expect him to leave after a long period out of the team, but the transfer ban chances everything.

Cesar Azpilicueta is the undisputed starter, but Reece James’ injury has meant he won’t get a full preseason to prove his capability as the full time backup to the Spaniard.

So Zappacosta will probably have to stick around for a third year, despite probably not wanting to, and not really being wanted.

Just another victim of the transfer ban.
