French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud is adamant that Chelsea hiring Frank Lampard as head coach this summer was the right decision to make.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Giroud said “He is basically a Chelsea legend. I like his energy and desire to always improve.
“We have been training very hard and with high intensity. We all believe in his quality to improve the team. With the transfer ban it is a good opportunity for the young players to show what they can do also.
“Now we are very excited to play the first league game.”
Lampard has publicly spoken highly of some of the young players under his command within the squad and now would be the best chance for some of them to make that transition into the first team.
Many of them have been previously coached by Lampard’s number two Jody Morris, so the belief will be there.
Giroud will be hoping to earn his place in the starting line up, but will be taking a close look over his shoulder with both Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham chomping at the bit with desire to play regularly as well.
It’s a great headache to have for the former England International in his first season as Chelsea manager.
