It’s a bit of a slow news few days for Chelsea, at least until the team takes off for Japan later today.
In the meantime, it’s given some of the beat writers who cover the club a chance to look back at what they saw last week in the two friendlies and a training camp in Ireland.
Oliver Harbord, who covers the team for Football.London was with the team, and he’s just written this piece about Mason Mount being “Chelsea ready.”
What he means, of course, is that the young centre mid showed a lot of quality in the two games in Ireland, scoring and looking bright in his two 45 minute spells. Those showings, despite the level of opposition, have convinced Harbord that any doubts about Mount’s ability to step up with year are misplaced.
One senses that a lot of Chelsea fans agree. There has been debate about whether the time was right for him to take such a leap forward, but he hasn’t looked out of place yet. We will learn more in the weeks to come, but there’s no denying he looks ready to feature regularly already.
