“Highly rated” Chelsea academy star linked with permanent transfer

Young Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, according to Goal.com.

Their Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella reported that the young defender is the subject of interest from recently-relegated Huddersfield, who want to sign the 20 year old on a permanent transfer.

That seems highly unlikely to happen at this stage. After impressing through out academy, Chalobah went and excelled on loan at Ipswich in the Championship last year. It was expected – and still seems likely – that he will go on another loan this year, and hope to break into the squad next summer. Kinsella says he is “highly rated” by senior figures at Chelsea.

However, as is pointed out in the Goal article, Trevoh only has two years left on his contract, and as we’ve seen happen increasingly in recent times, it looks possible he could force a permanent move by telling the club he won’t sign a long term deal.

Let’s hope that won’t happen. The club are apparently looking to extend his deal, and if that happens we can hope for a future for Trevoh at Stamford Bridge.
