Goalscorer confirms he is taking cursed number 9 shirt at Chelsea

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has confirmed that he will be wearing the number 9 shirt at the club this season, despite the fact many believe that it is a cursed shirt at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Abraham said “‘I’m honoured to wear the No 9 at Chelsea.

“I spoke to the manager and he asked me if I was ready to take it. I said, ‘Yeah, I’m ready’.”

The 21-year old donned the 9 shirt for the first time on Tuesday morning as his side beat Barcelona 2-1. And it was a good start too, with Abraham scoring the opening goal of the game.

But many people with superstitions believe that the famous number 9 shirt is actually cursed, Alvaro Morata being the latest player to flop in it.

But the confident England international is not phased by talk of it being cursed.

He told the Mail, “I’ve heard all the rubbish about the No 9, but I’m here to play my game and do my best.

“I’m glad he offered it to me!”

Abraham will be competing for that one starting spot next season, if Lampard does chose to play with one up top.

But with the type of confidence that he possesses, he will feel adamant that he can oust Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud as the main man at Stamford Bridge this season.
