‘He’s given a great case to stay’ – Chelsea forgotten man could get first-team spot, Lampard reveals

Frank Lampard has revealed that Chelsea winger Kenedy is on his way to earning himself a spot in the first-team squad next season, report the Express.

After a successful spell at Newcastle United at the tail end of the 2017/18 campaign, the Magpies opted to take Kenedy back on loan for the entirety of the following season.

Unfortunately for both Rafa Benitez and Kenedy, the relationship didn’t work out. He didn’t do himself justice and was starved of opportunities as a result.

We assumed that would be the end of Kenedy’s Chelsea career, with few players able to make it here on the back of a disappointing loan spell. We were wrong.

Speaking following Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat in Japan on Friday, Lampard revealed that Kenedy is doing all the right things to earn himself a spot in the squad.

He’s quoted by the Express saying:

“If Kenedy continues to show the attitude and plays the way he played today, then he’s given a great case to stay here. I know he has been out on loan in recent seasons, and been part of the squad. Nobody is in or out of the squad. There’s nobody who has had a line drawn under them or over them. Everyone is competing and the squad will be picked in due time.”

Kenedy is going to have to do more if he wants to convince the Chelsea supporters that he’s worthy, but we’re all right behind him in his efforts to do so!
