Frank Lampard praise for the ‘first class leader’ often criticised last season

Jorginho arrived at Chelsea from Napoli last summer alongside new head coach Maurizio Sarri, who also came from Napoli.

The 27-year old endured some heavy criticism in his first season, dividing Chelsea fans opinions on his ability, with his role as a ‘regista’ coming under fire.

However, one person has already been impressed with his qualities this summer, and perhaps its the most important person of all – his new head coach Frank Lampard.

Speaking about Jorginho to The Daily Express, Lampard said “His attitude in training has been first class. He’s a driver of a session.

“He’s a voice. He runs, he pushes people around him, he drags people up when he doesn’t feel they’re working as much as he might want.

“I’ve loved seeing that. So in terms of first impressions, working with him for 10 days, I can’t ask for any more. I’m delighted to have him.”

In a transition period for Chelsea, the call has often come for more leaders on the pitch, and judging by the comments from Lampard, Jorginho could help fill those gaps.

There has been a lot of talk about where Jorginho will play, will he still be at the base of the midfield, or will Lampard opt for N’Golo Kante in that role instead?

Lampard addressed this to The Express

“He played in one position [last season] and the manager had faith in him and it became something that was talked about, possibly too much.

“But I’m a new manager. I have new ideas. We might be more adaptable in the way we play. I might ask different things of Jorginho, of N’Golo Kante, of Ross Barkley – of anybody.

“I’m not stuck in a conversation from last year. I’m looking at a player who has very much impressed me over the last 10 days.”

This will be music to the ears of some Chelsea supporters who rate the Italian international highly, especially as it would appear that he stays in the plans of Lampard, ruling out reports that he might join Sarri at Juventus this summer.
