Frank Lampard to have the final say on Willian’s future

The Chelsea board are working closely with head coach Frank Lampard, with Petr Cech acting as the middle man, and the former Derby boss has some important squad decisions to make before the season starts.

One player whose future is still in the balance is 30-year old winger Willian, with interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid over the last year.

Lampard will now be given his say on what he wants for Willian, and whether the Brazil international is in his plans this season.

Chelsea had been looking to extend Willian’s contract, but there was a breakdown over the length of the deal being offered by the club.

The Blues have been very strict over the years on offering only one-year extensions to over 30’s. However, David Luiz recently signed a 2-year extension with the club and it’s believed Willian would want similar.

Lampard will need to take into consideration the transfer ban, and also the importance of senior players in the squad. But Willian may well be having his head turned by interest elsewhere, especially if he won’t be considered a regular in Lampard’s team.
