CONFIRMED: New contract and loan move for England Under 21 captain

Chelsea have today announced that defender Jake Clarke-Salter has signed a new 3-year deal with the club, before officially joining Birmingham City on loan, as confirmed by the Chelsea FC website.

Clarke-Salter was selected as the England Under 21 captain at this summers European Championships.

Having been at Chelsea since 2006 progressing through the academy, Clarke-Salter has been a regular part of the loan army.

The 21-year old has spent time at Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Vitesse, and now Birmingham City.

He will be hoping to have a good season in the Championship in order to impress Chelsea’s new coaching team of Frank Lampard and Jody Morris.

Chelsea have shown fairth in Clarke-Salter by agreeing an extended deal, before releasing him on loan.

It has never been a better time for youngsters to break into the Chelsea first team, with the two window transfer ban, and coaches who are willing to put trust in youth players, should they prove to be good enough.
