Chelsea lost to Kawasaki Frontale out in Japan, going down 1-0 to the reigning Japanese league leaders.
Given there’s not much else going on in the world right now, social media was predictably massive and overblown. Some complained about a pretty dull showing from the team, but other warned that this is still pretty much a fitness exercise.
We can see both sides. You can’t read anything into these games, on the other hand, it’s kind of impossible not to. It’s just human nature. We looked slow and sluggish – but let’s remember the pretty extreme conditions out there today.
You can see some of their reactions here below:
Full-Time Thoughts
– Very average
– Another sloppy goal conceded at the end (just like Bohemians)
– 4-2-3-1 will only work with the right players.
– Barkley/Pulisic looked decent.
– Drinkwater/Bakayoko looked out of depth.
– Certain players have to go.#CFC | #CFCinJapan pic.twitter.com/yBlGCxiiPY— Terry Sazio (@sazio1984) July 19, 2019

Umm no. Our season starts in 5 games.

Rigorous fitness workout in tropical greenhouse conditions.
To win football games, even friendlies, you have to put the ball in the back of the net more than your opponents – Chelsea had myriad opportunities to score – which is a lot better than creating nothing.

Let's be real serious..
Until Hudson Odoi, Ruben AND Reece are fully fit, our season doesn't technically start.

Lampard’s wait for a first trophy as Chelsea boss goes on as the MEIJI YASUDA J.LEAGUE WORLD CHALLENGE 2019 slips away.
Still too early to draw many conclusions about the team that will face United next month #cfc

Final Time Takeaways
– Midfield right now is the strength of this team. Best performances came from the midfielders
– Good to see Pulisic in a Chelsea shirt. Want to see him w/ Michy next
– Defensive uncertainty personnel wise scares me a bit
– 4 more preseason games. Calm

They're the champions of the J league.
They beat the league leaders and their famous rivals 3-0 a few days ago, so their form is amazing.
I looked yesterday, they're currently on a 17game unbeaten run.
Japanese teams are very good https://t.co/RmX3r8no0k

Seriously, if you're judging anything based on a pre-season match, you're toxic and you should get in the bin. #CFCFamily pic.twitter.com/FsFtH2I3eC
