Chelsea’s sleeper loan hit signs contract until 2022 and returns to Italy

Mario Pasalic has signed a new contract at Chelsea, and the club have announced he will join Atalanta on loan again. He is now contracted to stick around at Stamford Bridge until 2022.

This was predicted some weeks ago, and has now come to pass. The expectation is still that they will sign him next summer, and simply that for financial reasons it makes sense for them to not do so now.

We’re not sure why we’re doing them that favour, but there you go. Hopefully he can improve his value once again with another good season.

He shone for the Bergamo based club as they battled into the Champions League for the first time, and continued his progress as one of the “sleeper hit” loanees of the last ten years. Having never been overly hyped, he’s made really quite a nice career for himself, and in theory could become one of the longest serving Blues at the club.

Whether he will ever actually appear for us, well that’s another question entirely…
