How Chelsea will look to benefit from injuries to key academy stars this summer

Chelsea are trying to take advantage of the tough injury blows suffered by Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi by securing both on long term contracts, according to the Metro, among other sources.

The tabloid claim that the Blues are looking to secure the injured pair on long term deals, taking advantage of their weakened state to lock them up long term.

Callum is clearly the priority here, given his current deal expires in a year’s time. He also looks set to return to action a lot sooner.

But in order to avoid the tough situation we’ve got ourselves in with Ruben, it will be essential that we don’t let that happen again with Ruben. He also had a breakout season almost as impressive as Cal’s and will get a monster wage bump to match.

Given we can’t sign anyone this season, we have money to burn, and a good starting point would be to secure our best young academy products, to make the most of their injury problems and our transfer ban.
