Chelsea tracking sought-after young English prospect despite foreign interest

Chelsea are one of three teams keeping close tabs on Portsmouth youngster Leon Maloney, according to The Sun.

The 18-year old winger is a sought after talent, and has a growing interest from West Ham, Volendam, as well as Chelsea.

Maloney scored 26 goals for Portsmouth’s academy team last season despite playing as a winger, according to the same report.

The Sun claim that Chelsea have accelerated their interest in the youngster after receiving glowing scouting reports on his performances.

But their is also interest from abroad, notably Volendam, a team who have a real eye for young talent.

The Sun say former Ajax Head of Academy Wim Jonk – the man who coached Frenkie de Jong and Mathijs de Ligt – was the one who spotted Maloney playing last season and noted his talent.

Jonk is now managing second division side Volendam, and is desperate to try to bring Maloney in before any big teams do.
