Chelsea starter set for two year deal despite some fans’ misgivings

Willian is the last Chelsea player not to have returned from his summer break, and when he does it sounds like there’s a pretty nice welcome home gift on the table for him.

Noted Chelsea insider “Carefree Youth” Tweeted the following today, heavily hinting at a new two year deal for the Brazilian upon his return:

That followed on nicely from whispers we heard a few weeks ago in places like 90min.com that moves were in place to get this deal done. Overall, it sounds like a given at this stage that the winger will sign his new deal before returning to Frank Lampard’s preseason in the next couple of weeks.

That’s not great news for those who don’t rate the former Shakhtar man, but it was, as CarefreeYouth points out, rather inevitable. His contract runs out at the end of the season, and given we were always going to need to keep him to provide squad depth, this strategy allows us to hopefully sell him on this summer for a decent fee after he makes plenty of appearances for us this season.
