Chelsea “set to confirm” winger’s new deal ahead of important season

It’s a story that has been circling for weeks, but it looks like we might finally reach some resolutions on the story of Willian’s contract.

The Evening Standard is today reporting that Chelsea are “set to confirm” that they’ve agreed a one year contract extension with the winger.

As the paper point out, he’s been the subject of serious interest from PSG, Man U and Barcelona in the last 12 months, so securing him isn’t just a matter of getting him to play for through next year. It also raises the very real possibility that we could sell him for a fee next summer, rather than letting him walk away for free.

While some fans haven’t enjoyed his performances over the last few years, the transfer ban has made this move a no-brainer for Chelsea, and even the notorious Willian haters who infest Twitter won’t have too many complaints if we squeeze another season out of him and then sell him on next summer.
