Chelsea’s unclear situation at centre back sees a ton of talented players battling for limited spots.
Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz are certs for the season ahead, but beyond that nothing is certain. Andreas Christensen has been a solid backup for a couple of years, but even he is not a guarantee for the season to come.
Also battling for those spots are Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori. The two were loaned out last season, but it looks like one of them will be integrated this time around.
According to Paul Brown, who covers Everton, it now looks more like the younger man who will make way:
Told Kurt #Zouma has not handed in an official transfer request, and currently has no plans to do so despite interest from #efc. #cfc considering loaning out #Tomori, eliminating another of his immediate rivals for a first-team spot

It’s good to hear that Zouma isn’t going anywhere. He’s a class act who we can get a lot of use out of this season. It will be a shame to lose Tomori, but he can really build on a solid season with Derby and hopefully make a similar impact somewhere else this season.
