Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has held an early morning news conference in Japan ahead of our friendly with Kawasaki Frontale, and he’s explained some of the squad decisions that have affected who he has taken with him to the Far East.
One of those who didn’t make the cut was Ethan Ampadu, but not from a lack of talent. The young Welshman broke into Antonio Conte’s thinking two seasons ago, but then spent a lot of last campaign on the bench or out of the squad entirely.
Now, Lampard has confirmed that the youngster will be going on loan, and will need to remain in the UK to sort out a move.
We were all keen to see him get a chance under Lamps, but given how many midfielders we have already it makes sense to send him somewhere where he can play every week.
He’s got the talent, he just needs the opportunity.
Lampard explains Ethan Ampadu s absent because he could be going on loan for the season. He is a big fan of the player and wanted to sign him on loan for Derby last season, so is hopeful he can play a lot of games somewhere this year.#CFCinJapan
