Chelsea legend makes “monster war chest” prediction that will excite Blues fans

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has revealed his belief that Frank Lampard will have serious amounts of cash to play with when next summer comes around.

Lampard is in a unique situation at Stamford Bridge, having taken the Chelsea job while the club are unable to make transfers for the next 12 months.

That won’t be too daunting for Lamps, who has great confidence in his own ability, but there’s no denying that the squad could do with a considerable revamp.

It’ll get it, but he’ll have to wait until next summer to make the wholesale changes he’d want to. Thankfully, Nevin believes he’ll have more than sufficient funds to do so.

Nevin is quoted by the Express explaining how, if Lampard manages to get through this season unscathed, he ought to be in a good position in the 2020 summer window:

“The money that’s being made, [Alvaro] Morata’s just gone, a huge sum of money for Hazard as well and you’ve got Champions League this season.”

“To some degree, he is going to have a monster war chest in a year’s time. He’s got an entire year to look, to check, to see everything around him.”

“So if he’s given that year – as long as they don’t get relegated! – and he goes into the season after this one, he’s got a fair to meddling chance.”

“This season I wouldn’t say is a write-off but the expectation must, if they’ve any sense at all, be quite low.”

It’s also important to add that our transfer business, in terms of outgoings, is not over this summer. More cash is on its way, and it’s going to be sat gathering dust.

Next summer we could see one of the biggest spends since Roman Abramovich took charge of the club back in 2003. We’re already looking forward to it!
