Chelsea legend Eden Hazard will be wearing the number 23 shirt for Real Madrid in his debut campaign with Los Blancos, according to Spanish publication Marca.
Though Hazard is one of the biggest names in the football world and every Real Madrid fan will have put his shirt on their wish-list when he signed along the dotted line, the La Liga heavyweights have taken their time allocating the Belgian a squad number.
He donned both the number 17 and number 10 during his time as a Chelsea player, but now marks the beginning of a new era for the world-class winger. As Marca report, Hazard will have the number 23 on his back from the start of next season.
Whether it’s a nod to either of David Beckham or LeBron James, as Marca suggest, is unclear, but it’d be a rather random number for him to select if not. We think he’ll be quietly upset not to have had the 7 or 10 vacated upon his arrival at the Bernabeu.
