Forgotten Chelsea defender close to joining Ligue 1 giants Marseille in £5M deal

Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman is close to leaving the club on a permanent basis and signing for Ligue 1 giants Marseille, according to a report published by The Sun.

Baba signed for Chelsea during Jose Mourinho’s reign and was offered several opportunities to impress after Guus Hiddink was appointed interim manager.

While he certainly did not look out of place in the Chelsea defence, we are talking about the most blatantly mediocre team we’ve seen since the turn of the millennium.

The Ghanian ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament at the African Cup of Nations, which did his development no favours. He’s become stunted.

Baba will never be good enough to be a starter at Chelsea, in reality. It appears as though the club have now made the decision to cash-in on him.

The Sun report that Baba is thought to be closing in on a £5M transfer to Marseille, which will be another player off our books and another few million in the bank.

If he does depart, we wish him well.
