Chelsea fans all over the world are divided over the club’s decision to purchase Mateo Kovacic permanently from Real Madrid this summer.
The Croatia international spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge, playing under Maurizio Sarri in a three-man midfield. He was one of the most talked about players in the Chelsea team, having failed to register a single goal during the entire campaign. He played on the left of the midfield that also boasted Jorginho and N’Golo Kante most of the time and despite his partners getting on the assist or scoring sheet, Kovacic struggled to make meaningful impact in Chelsea’s attack.
As a matter of fact, some fans were not sure of his defensive contribution as well. He was simply considered just one of the members of the squad. A player who adds little to the team’s efforts.
But with the news that Chelsea are unable to sign any new players this summer and the next transfer window via Sky Sports, the Blues took advantage of the opportunity to sign Kovacic, who is not considered a new player, having been registered with the team from last season.
His signing leaves Maurizio Sarri’s successor with more options in midfield. He is a welcome addition to the squad and perhaps under a new manager, he could start contributing directly to goals.
